Who is Chaim Rubin and Why Are We Targeting Him?

It is a serious thing to do: to target an individual and call for a boycott of his business. One would need quite a lot of cause to take this stand. We do.

 

 I have personally helped many heartbroken families who suffered from Chaim Rubin’s actions. I have heard stories of how their children were excluded from entering the school or yeshivah they had their heart set on — excluded for the shallowest of reasons. I know that this kind of selectivity based on social status or wealth is not uncommon and that there are a lot of bad people around who commit these crimes without a second thought. But still, one man stands out as a particularly bad example of the breed… the type that would have helped the Germans in their 'selectzia' of their fellow Jews: Chaim Rubin.

 

Chaim Rubin is the first committee member that has taken the Mosdos, a public property, and turned it onto a private business. He has the opportunity to be like Nachshon ben Aminudov by helping parents and the Viener mosdos with yoisher. He could make up for all those years of suffering parents, as a act of gratitude to the customers who have spent their money in his store, who made him into the honorable “Ba’al Batishe Mentch” that considers his himself. No, instead he has become the “Amalek Asher Korchu Ba’Derech,” by putting down every va'ad member who was willing to help broken families, by invoking his pitiful argument, “You’re not responsible for helping these parents." Many times other committee members would call to support a particular child or family. They would get Rubin’s cold shoulder: "He's not a Veiner Chassid, he's not heimish enough. I have no obligation to take him in.”

 

Even Va'ad members from other mosdos who were willing to stretch out a helping hand to a broken family were reproached by Mr. Rubin. “You don’t have to do this. You don’t owe them anything.”

 

Digging deeper, what about Chaim Rubin’s relationship with Viene? Everyone familiar with the facts knows that Rabbi Lebowitz, the old Veiner Rav, threw him out of Yeshiva — twice. The Rav never liked the fact that he even considers himself a Viener talmid.

 

Viene was always a righteous Kehila of Torah, Halacha and Yiddishkeit, founded and assembled by a group of erliche ba'ali batim, who invested their fortune and sweat building the Kehilah for the past 70 years. Today, however, their own children and grandchildren are not accepted in their own school. The cold blooded Chaim Rubin selects his pupils by his own standards of wealth and power. The founders’ children and grandchildren are not heimish enough for his taste.

 

Although we cannot stop him from carrying out his evil acts, we can and must inform each and every person in the community about this situation. Ask them to spend their money at a business owned by a person that has a Yiddish heart, not by a cold person like Chaim Rubin. We know of other va'ad members in Veiner school that engage in similar practices. Why not boycott them as well?

 

Because we firmly believe that had they not been influenced by Chaim Rubin as their misguided moral compass, they would have never committed such heinous acts.
